Pilates was designed by Joseph Pilates who drew on his experiences as a boxer, gymnast and nurse to develop a comprehensive system to safely and very effectively work the entire body, and to address and correct muscular and skeletal imbalances. As practicing Pilates involves a high degree of focus and concentration in order to perform the exercises correctly and with maximum benefit, it is often referred to as a ‘mind/body’ discipline.'
